Letter from the Chairman of The Board & President and CEO

Dear Friends,

Helping everyone in performing arts and entertainment is what The Actors Fund is all about. But we don’t do it alone. For nearly 130 years, everyone in our generous community of supporters has been making a difference in the lives of real people—whether it’s private one-on-one counseling for an actress recently diagnosed with cancer, free medical care for an uninsured dancer, a helping hand for a writer suffering from substance abuse, or affordable housing for a stand-up comic too sick to work. For them and nearly 12,500 others last year, together we provide a safety net of support in times of need, crisis or transition.

While the nation’s economy faced another difficult year in 2010, we are happy to report that the finances of The Actors Fund remained in good health. We attained the highest possible rating of four stars from Charity Navigator - the largest and most utilized evaluator of charities - and 88 cents of every dollar contributed directly supports our programs and services. But the need is still great, and only increasing. The Actors Fund helped 12,486 people last year—34% more than only three years ago—through our essential programs: social services and financial assistance, housing, health services, and employment and training services. Your continued support is more important than ever.
